Fatality at FMG’s Christmas Creek mine

Fortescue Metals Group has advised that a contract worker was fatally injured in an incident overnight at the Christmas Creek mine site.

The company said in a statement that it has advised relevant civil and mine safety authorities and will assist in the investigation into the incident.

Chaplaincy and counselling services are being made available to colleagues at the mine and to the family members who have been notified of the incident.

FMG’s operations director David Woodall said Fortescue was deeply saddened by the incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the worker’s loved ones at this time.

“Mining and processing operations at the mine were suspended overnight.”
