Goodyear boosts OTR tyre supply to Oz
Goodyear is investing $250m to upgrade and expand its Nippon Giant Tire (NGT) manufacturing facility in Japan, to increase its global supply of off the road (OTR) tyres.
Goodyear recently acquired complete ownership of its subsidiary NGT, buying out joint venture partners Toyo Tires and Mitsubishi Corporation.
Dan Smytka, president of Goodyear’s Asia Pacific region said expansion to the NGT facility will facilitate an increase in supply of OTR tyres to Australia.
“The plant upgrades will significantly grow NGT’s capabilities by utilising new manufacturing technologies and processes.”
Goodyear’s investment will enable it to manufacture a full line of 57inch tires as well as 63inch tires at a future date, at the NGT facility.
The expanded facility is expected to be fully operational in early 2014 and increase employment there to about 400 workers.
