Sandvik Mining and Construction and Canadian-based Cubex Limited have announced a global partnership for the distribution of Cubex’s range of QXR down-the-hole surface drills, effective from June.

In November 2009, the two companies announced a global agreement for Sandvik to distribute Cubex’s underground mining products. This arrangement has now been expanded, with Sandvik to distribute the entire range of Cubex QXR down-the-hole (DTH) surface drills.
All global sales, customer service and aftermarket support for the QXR range will be transferred to Sandvik.
The two companies will continue the existing high levels of support and service for the fleet of QXR drills already operating globally, said Neil Emery, Regional Cubex product line manager with Sandvik Mining and Construction - Region Australia Pacific.
“The Cubex QXR series is an ideal addition to Sandvik’s range of dedicated surface mining drills, complementing our existing offering and confirming our position as the productivity leader in mining,” he said.
“As a result of this agreement, we are now able to offer a far broader range of products to our customers to meet their surface mining drilling requirements.
“The integration of the QXR drills into our product offerings, combined with Sandvik’s global customer support, will represent huge benefits for our customers,” said Emery.
“Currently in Australia there are more than 25 Cubex QXR rigs in operation, in both mining and quarrying applications. Rigs are operating in Queensland, NSW, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
“Sandvik Mining and Construction’s Australia-wide service and support network - including in remote areas - means we are ideally placed to offer significantly higher levels of backup and customer support for this product range,” he said.
Cubex Limited is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Founded in 1972, it is a major designer and manufacturer of DTH drills for both the underground and surface mining sectors.
Kitch Wilson, president of Cubex, said the QXR range was a proven productivity leader in down-the-hole drilling in mining applications around the world.
“Now, with the global support of the Sandvik organisation, we believe these drills will be increasingly popular in all mining and large quarry operations for a wide variety of drilling applications.”
Cubex’s QXR drills are fully self-contained, diesel-powered, high-pressure DTH drills, crawler-mounted and with tilting booms and feeds for maximum flexibility.
QXR rigs are used across a broad range of mining drilling applications including blasthole production drilling and pre-split drilling, as well as pioneering and pit dewatering work. They are also being increasingly used in reverse circulation (RC) drilling for sampling and grade control.
Designed to meet the needs of tough mining applications, the rigs are matched with high-power compressors giving them the capability of drilling with 500 psi (34.5 bar) air.
A full range of engine and compressor configurations allow the machines to be used with 4", 5", 6" and 8" DTH hammers.
