Their promotion follows the dumping of Right faction powerbroker Joe Tripodi and upper house MP Ian Macdonald from the front bench.
The NSW Minerals Council has welcomed the appointment of Peter Primrose MLC as the new Minister for Mineral Resources.
CEO Dr Nikki Williams congratulated Primrose and said she looked forward to briefing him on a range of key issues.
“The mining industry makes a huge contribution to the NSW economy, with more than $1.2 billion in royalties going to the government and the people of NSW last year alone,” Dr Williams said.
“That contribution comes from the hard work of the 30,000 people employed in the industry, which also supports around 200,000 more jobs in regional NSW.
“We have some challenges ahead, but we look forward to continuing a constructive relationship with the NSW Government through Minister Primrose.
“I would also like to thank and commend the former minister Ian Macdonald for his contribution over the past five years.
“He was a strong advocate for regional NSW and supported the mining industry in working towards commercially viable carbon capture and storage to significantly reduce emissions from coal-fired power stations.
“This emerging technology could be Australia’s greatest contribution to the fight against climate change and that’s why it is so important we continue on the path towards demonstration and commercial deployment.”
