Condition monitoring, the key to cost savings: Techenomics

by wallacep created Nov 11, 2009 10:56 AM

Techenomics offer condition monitoring services which include oil analysis, magnetic plug inspections, and lubrication and filtration solutions to fixed and mobile plants, all of which can significantly extend the life of mining equipment, lower unscheduled downtime and decrease costs.

This year Techenomics also launched the first fully integrated condition monitoring software package, Blue Oceans.
The software was designed to allow maintenance personnel to schedule and record maintenance for their equipment including recording all oil analysis, lubricant and fuel usage and monitoring wear on magnetic plugs and rear dump trays.
Clients using Blue Oceans can trend, create limits, and customise their data on all condition monitoring analysis results. Non-services customers are able to create and integrate data obtained from their existing oil analysis provider and other condition monitoring programmes into their own unique modules and formats for equipment trending.
Techenomics has also added a static wear tray module to the software program which is designed to predict failures before they occur.
“It works by having Techenomics trained field staff monitor and record all areas of the rear dump tray by using specialised tools that display the current thickness of each plate in each location. This is then recorded by the field staff and later uploaded into Blue Oceans,” said Jason Davis, new product manager, Techenomics International.
“Then maintenance planners and superintendents can check the status of the plates and ensure parts and repairs are schedule before they are needed.”
Techenomics has extensive knowledge of the Fuel, Lubricants, Air Coolants (FLAC) program and can assist companies in developing a world class contamination control program which has seen some clients reduce lubrication related failures in mining equipment by 80 per cent, greatly improve the availability of plant and equipment, reduce oil spend and the volumes of waste hydrocarbons being removed from site.
The company can analyse lubricant samples from many different sources including mining operations, and have a full range of condition monitoring testing available through its laboratories.
Results for each sample are reviewed, interpreted and managed by the company’s Blue Oceans software and recommendations are given by trained chemists and technicians with a background in equipment maintenance.
Preventative maintenance is all about insight and knowledge and since 2002 Techenomics has been performing magnetic plug inspections on equipment fleets including haul trucks, rear dumps, dozers and loaders.
The collected data has provided maintenance planners with the vital information directed at identifying iron wear generation. This service provides planners insight information to the component life of wheel hubs, final drives and other planetary gearboxes preventing unnecessary failures and providing the key to cutting costs.
