QREX packed with events for the resources industry
The Queensland Resources Expo (QREX) event prospectus is now officially in circulation and with so many networking and learning opportunities it’s worth planning your schedule before you arrive at the Expo.
QREX will run from July 20-24th, 2009 and will shine a spotlight on the Central Queensland region through a series of events and opportunities including; a trade exhibition; an education and employment showcase; industry tours; regional industry and lifestyle briefings; and social events.
“This is an event for industry leaders, suppliers, investors and community members alike,” said Ellie Traynor, QREX event manager. “QREX will give everyone the opportunity to explore the infrastructure that Central Queensland already boasts and find out about the planned development within the area.”
She believes that QREX in 2009 will be a defining event in the revitalisation of the resources industry and indeed of the region after such a tough start to the year.
“It’s very important that we stay focused on the bright future of Central Queensland industry and not get lost in a doom-and-gloom attitude,” said Traynor.
The event will kick off with the International Industry Conference on Monday July 20th.
“The Conference will address the issues that are facing Australia and the global resource community over the coming year,” said Traynor.
“It will confront the many challenges facing the global community including energy security, diversity and the outlook for a low carbon future both in our backyard and beyond.”
The Regional Industry Conference on Friday July 24th will direct the attention firmly on Central Queensland, highlighting the strong resource industry growth of the 21st century and what is necessary to continue this growth, particularly in light of rapid transformation of the coal seam gas industry.
The Q150 QREX Lunch, following the Regional Industry Conference on Friday July 24th, will be an opportunity to celebrate the State’s rich history and contribution to the Australian resources industry in the company of specially invited VIPs.
The Rockhampton Showgrounds, venue for the QREX Trade Exhibition will be the central hub of activity from July 21st to July 23rd.
“The Showgrounds will be the place to see and be seen during QREX,” said Traynor. “It will be buzzing with activity; there will be something for everyone, whether you’re in the industry and looking for the latest information or any members of the community with an interest in the resources or related sectors wanting to know how these industries will shape our community in the future.”
The QREX Trade Exhibition has more than 100 exhibitors already confirmed. A trade-only event, it will provide the latest innovations and newest technology from a wide range of suppliers, allowing visitors to compare products and services - all at a single venue, with equipment, products and solutions tailored precisely to the needs of their particular market.
Also located at the Rockhampton Showgrounds, the Australian Resources Careers Market is a free centre of displays and activities that will be open to the entire community.
An Industry Tour Program will depart daily from the Showgrounds between July 21st and July 23rd. Lead by industry experts, the tours will visit regional hotspots and will offer participants further insights into the issues and industry discussed in the conferences.
The tour will include a range of venues such as; the state-of-the-art Blackwater International Coal Centre, to view the rehabilitation processes undertaken by the Department of Mines and Energy at the Mount Morgan Gold Mine; the industry research centre CQUniversity’s Centre for Railway Engineering; Stanwell Power Station, a major Queensland energy supplier with strong environmental and social commitments; and QMAG Magnesia Mine & Processing Plant, one of the world's largest producers of high quality deadburned, electrofused and calcined magnesia.
