March/April Features

by The Australian Journal of Mining created Sep 07, 2009 12:40 PM

The March/April issue of AJM will include these features:

Fuels, Lubricants & Fluid Handling

Mining groups are significant consumers of energy, diesel and petrol and the need to reduce fuel and lubricant costs has never been greater. In this issue we’ll look at the latest trends in automation, environmentally responsible storage design, fuel management systems, mobile fuel solutions for hire, facility management and the latest trends in preventative maintenance.

Mining Consultants

Mining consultants are an essential part of every mining operation and bring an assortment of expertise to the sector. They provide solutions to engineering, feasibility studies, geological challenges, health and safety services, technical assessments and environmental impact studies to name just a few. This feature will examine what’s in store for consultants Australia – wide in what promises to be an extremely busy 2012.

Drill & Blast

Drilling and blasting technology and equipment continues to be an area of rapid growth and change for the mining industry. This issue will examine the most recent developments drilling equipment, blast accessories and technologies. We’ll also look at the latest training tools as drilling companies continue to experience staff shortages.

Dust Suppressing Chemicals & Spray Systems

Despite extensive research dust suppression systems at Australian mines are rare. Chemical suppressants vary widely in their composition varying from polymer based formulae to starch based products and green products with mystery natural glues. This feature will examine the products on the market and the suppliers finding favour with miners and bulk freight rail operators.

Community Relations in an Anti-Mining Environment

Many miners are starting to experience community resentment. Governments are responding to community pressure by tightening mining legislation and restricting exploration activity. Coal seam gas mining in particular has had a polarising effect and mining companies are showing an inability or unwillingness to engage with local communities to explain their activities. This feature will focus what mining companies need to do to secure their future activities by getting communities on side.

If you have an editorial contribution for any of these features the deadline for submissions is March 9th.
